Mure & Peyrot are two families which, for over 115 years, have pooled their knowledge to keep the cutlery business going. The oldest branch of the two cutlery families is the Mure one. They are originally from Puy-de-Dôme close to Thiers, which is a worldwide-known town for its knives. It is the Durolle, a river with a significant drop, which allowed the installation of cutlery in Thiers from the Middle Ages.
Cutlery in Thiers supported the population at the time, it is said that knives were made throughout Thiers. It was a collective production to which everyone contributed, like a subcontractor. There were the master cutlers who placed orders with craftsmen: the blacksmiths threshed the raw steel, the grinders worked the edge, the hideers took care of the horn of the handle and the polishers gave the blades their final shine.
The family business would therefore have started in 1905, with Antoine, then his son Claude Mure, both of them practicing the moulder trade : they shaped the edges of knives. Then Claude's sons, Antoine and Édouard Mure, succeeded to their father. Ernest Peyrot joined in this continuity between craftsmanship and industry when he married Edouard Mure's daughter, Odette. He modernized the business. Finally Jean-Claude Peyrot, engineer, took over the company in the 1980s with his wife. It has refocused on professional cutlery by implementing a new range: human safety at work.
Today, Mure & Peyrot designs cutters for handling in warehouses. They are used to open packaging and packages. Its customers come from multiple sectors of the economy : automotive, aviation, security, food, bakery ... Since 1992, Mure & Peyrot has also specialized in the windshields industry. It was the meeting with Saint-Gobain, which is a French specialist in the production, transformation and distribution of materials that enabled the creation of this new range.
